Experiments in Mixed Media
Carol Nelson
April 21-23rd 2017
CLASS SIZE IS VERY LIMITED!!!!!!

Class Description:

This workshop will feature a series of projects in which we will explore different mixed media techniques Carol uses in her paintings. Students can expect to complete one or more paintings per day.

Carol's approach to mixed media works for both realism and abstraction.  You will learn about a variety of materials and techniques, such as use and preparation of Tyvek, metals and metal foils, embossed foils, combusted origami foil, rusted iron paint, making your own unique collage papers, making unique focal medallions using air dry clay, inexpensive substitutes for pricey art materials, and much more.

Carol will also discuss abstract composition and color theory, various kinds of supports, how to attach various collage elements, and presentation options for a finished piece.

Artist Bio:
I live to be creative.  I am inspired by things I see around me - a line, a shadow, a texture, a color.  Form and shape and how color masses interact - it's all part of what gets me going in a creative pursuit.  It seems that many of my artistic ideas come to me early in the morning, when I'm half way between sleep and awake.

My style goes from realism to abstraction.  I love doing both, but my workshops and private instruction tend to focus on my mixed media work, which definitely leans to abstraction.  The artist's creative energy needs to be focused to be successful at abstract work, and that's why I
love it.

I was recently selected by Golden Artist Colors, Inc. to attend the Golden Artist Educator Program. I now have successfully completed exams for my GAEP certification - this is a global program that has been offered in 13 countries; I am one of 101 Artists worldwide to obtain the GAEP credential.

Teaching others, and sharing my knowledge has become a big part of my art career. Since I love to experiment with different materials, other artists come to me to learn some of the techniques I've developed for my abstract work.  I love sharing what I've learned with other artists through classes and workshops around the country.

What this means: If you buy a class spot and are unable to attend, and if there is a waiting list of students that has formed, we will put you in contact with the first person on the list to whom you can offer your class spot. If the person on the list accepts, then that person will need to pay you for your spot and once that transaction is complete and both parties are satisfied, we will transfer your spot to the other person. If you are unable to attend and there is no waiting list, we will unfortunately be unable to provide refunds.

Emergency Cancelations : In the very rare event of an emergency or unavoidable natural disaster or act of God, the class may be cancelled. In this situation, all fees will be reimbursed to students in full.
