Broken & Beautiful: The Art of Industrial Grunge
“Destruction is also creation.” – Marcel Duchamp
July 17th - 19th, 2020
****All supplies are included****
Day 1: Students will learn techniques to simulate worn, industrial-like textures and create a personal swatch book with recipes for later reference.
Day 2: Students will continue working on their swatch books and will also be introduced to industrial grunge design principles and create projects on different substrates.
Day 3: Students will continue working on and perfecting individual pieces.
Join me in this broken and “oh so beautiful” adventure! Industrial grunge is an amazing artistic journey that simulates urban industrial textures – think rust, patina, concrete, iron, aluminum, burnt surfaces, etc. Broken, worn out or decayed structures have the most beautiful textures – making this class perfect for texture addicts and grunge aficionados alike. Learn the secret to making texture come alive in a painting and experiment with highly contrasted textures to give your piece the ultimate wow factor.
During the class, students will work with different mediums and learn to create their own organic looking texture pastes and how to use artistic pastes and gels, along with everyday items, to create beautiful industrial grunge effects. Students will also learn how to imitate 3D elements such as nail heads, screws, washers and bolts for inclusion on their industrial grunge pieces.
In addition to developing a library of grunge techniques, students will also be exposed to my methods of designing industrial grunge abstract pieces and learn how these effects can be incorporated into different art genres such as representational portraiture and florals.
I am a self-taught artist and have been creating my entire life – working in both digital design and with traditional art materials. I am both honored and excited to share my newest creative adventure with you!
