Class description:In this class students will learn how to paint dynamic and emotional portraits with large loose brush strokes and dynamic colours. Three portraits will be completed, each one beginning with a charcoal sketch. On the last days students will learn how to take their own reference photos with a focus on finding compelling compositions, and will then paint a portrait from those on the last day.Students will work to create 3 large scale canvases.(Canvases and supplies included)Topics covered:- how to draw the proportions of a face- mixing your colours from the three primaries- painting with large and bold brush strokes- taking reference photos- creating your own compositionsAbout the Instructor:Elly Smallwood is an artist living and working in Canada. She is currently exhibiting primarily in Europe and travels internationally for exhibitions and workshops. Her art is focused on creating emotional and raw portraits of the people in her life.
