Color can be confusing – figuring out how to mix a color or deciding what color goes where.  The focus of this class is learning how to use color effectively in acrylic landscape paintings.  Melanie will walk students step by step through how to mix colors with various exercises from mixing colorful grays to a gazillion greens.  She will show you how to make rich color the star of the show and share the three questions she asks whenever she mixes a color.

Melanie will paint several demos throughout the workshop showing the class how she approaches a landscape painting from composition to deciding when a painting is finished sharing her color secrets along the way.  There will also be plenty of time for the class to paint from their own landscape photos with Melanie providing individual instruction.

If you want to learn how to use color in your landscapes or you are just tired of buying all those tubes of paint and “tubing it” then this is the class for you.    This class is appropriate for all levels – from beginner to advanced.

Half-day, full-day, multi-day workshops, and special events are scheduled throughout the year. Once you purchase a workshop you will be enrolled.

If you would like to enroll in a workshop that has been sold out, please send an email to and you will be put on a waiting list.

What this means: If you buy a class spot and are unable to attend, and if there is a waiting list of students that has formed, we will put you in contact with the first person on the list to whom you can offer your class spot. If the person on the list accepts, then that person will need to pay you for your spot and once that transaction is complete and both parties are satisfied, we will transfer your spot to the other person. If you are unable to attend and there is no waiting list, we will unfortunately be unable to provide refunds.

In the very rare event of an emergency or unavoidable natural disaster or act of God, the class may be cancelled. In this situation, all fees will be reimbursed to students in full.
