Miriam Schulman's Garden Party Workshop
Instructor Miriam Schulman
Date October 20th-21st, 2018
Enjoy the diversity of mixed media and learn a variety of techniques for creating transparent and harmonious layers in this floral painting class that will explore the wild beauty of nature. On the first day, you’ll learn a step- by-step process for creating majestic layers with balance and harmony that will allow flowers to pop against the background. As you add each layer you’ll fall more deeply in love with your beautiful art making process as you tend to your garden and gain confidence in your color choices. You’ll explore new ideas for imaginative backgrounds that doesn’t always have to be “sky and grass.”
On the second day, we will begin the day with drawing exercises designed to quiet your inner critic while you embrace your true authentic voice. This sketchbook practice will enable you to attack the canvas with courage as you develop an intuitive approach to organic flower painting. You’ll explore how to reduce the complexity of a flower to a few lines that suggest the flower rather than copy it exactly. You’ll (finally) understand how to make your composition dance across the surface of a painting with personality and discover when to stop instead of going on and on until you’ve overworked the painting.
By the end of this two day workshop, you’ll bring home a completed work of art and your creative well filled to the brim with new ideas and inspiration.
