Paint the Pantry: Candy, Olives and Nutella

Jean learned long ago through her own artist’s journey that a wonderful route to learning to paint (or painting better) is to work with simple objects as subject matter.  Once those principles are learned, we can apply them to any subject from still life to landscape.

This is the perfect class for the near beginner or more advanced painter who wants to loosen up and explore the expressive potential of your paint brush!

While covering the basics of painting (“What exactly is a Medium?” and “How do I even START a painting?” ), Jean offers a fun and relaxed atmosphere for honing your skills as a painter.

Complete 2-3 small everyday object paintings with a step by step  approach that will stay with you long after the paint is dry!

Jean is known for her positive approach to learning and an ability to reach students whatever their current level of skill.

All supplies are included, just be sure to bring a good ole’ sense of fun!

About the Artist

Jean Cauthen  Jean brings a love of painting, teaching and an attitude of positivity and humor to every art adventure.

Unexpected color relationships, complex design have been the hallmark of her large abstract paintings based on forms in nature and architecture. Her plein-air work inspires these color and design choices. It is this painting on location that takes Jean to Ireland, France, Costa Rico and Italy.

Jean’s work was recently featured in Outdoor Painter Magazine.

Jean holds an MFA in painting, exhibits internationally, conducts Art History lectures, has worked in healing arts and never misses a chance to “meet the locals.”

Jean is represented at Awaken Gallery in Mt. Holly, NC.  You can also see her work and studio at Dilworth Artisan Station

You can see chronicles of  misadventures in her blog.

Studio events are a 2-4 day immersion in mixed-media art and journaling. These creative weekends are filled with the process driven exploration of creative mediums and applications in an intimate, supportive environment, challenging students to expand their creativity through the exploration of new artistic methods and mediums.
