Hi everyone, welcome to Abstract Florals!!!
This week is all about being loose, playing by intuitively picking up colors and using the brush to blend and place color. Create as many variations that you want! Take risks, make mistakes, make a couple that you LOVE and a couple that you hate! You will learn more from your mistakes so take risks!! These flower studies should be abstractions and each new floral you paint should vary slightly as you gain more confidence picking up color. You are going to be awesome at this, so don't doubt yourself...i think you are awesome!

I am so incredibly proud watching the evolution of the paintings over the past few days. Many of you have experimented with colors, shapes, flowers, surfaces and even homemade easels!!!
In these next two lessons I will share with you more about blending colors, defining the shapes of flowers and layering color.
This is week 1 of 6 weeks so be easy on yourself, especially if working in acrylics is new to you. Each one of us brings something unique and different to the canvas it is your job this week to hone in on the techniques and applications that feel most intuitive and run with it.
Feel free to work these lessons in a journal or canvas and if you have time, even create and recreate for the practice.

Lets reconsider our use of space this week and how we choose to “see”. Take a different look at your flowers, put them on the floor to look at them from above or put them up high and paint what you see from below or just paint the stems even!!

I cannot wait to share today's lesson, it is one of my absolute favorites. Made from a pretty ugly cast off painting this 6x6 daily emerged from the chaos.

We are learning to paint glass in the next lessons. This is something i have been practicing for over a year and still i am learning. I want to present to you the basics, show you how I achieve the look of glass and encourage you to find your own personal style. The portrayal of glass for me is still a journey and it changes all the time with the more risks I am willing to take. The best advice given to me was make your darks darker and your lights lighter, truly look at the shadows, shadows are not just gray, but can be blues and purples. Play, experiment, practice, but most of all accept all that you do as valuable because each brush stroke makes you better than the last!
